The news of the week concerns a new item that NBC has just begun to insert into their standard polling. You know how pollsters like to ask “which of these is most important to you in this election,” and then they list a bunch of wildly different issues – domestic and international, social, economic, foreign policy, etc. – and ask you to choose or rank them?
Well, NBC’s newest twist on that list is to include asking whether one of their top fears is the category, “Threats to Democracy.”
Sounds ominous, doesn’t it?
Like so many of these catch-all poll questions, the percentage of respondents won’t truly tell us anything at all. The revealing thing is what it tells you about the pollster – that the pollster wants to ask purposefully vague questions so they can twist whatever the results may be into their own malicious purposes.
For my two cents, I will start by reminding you that this is the wrong term… It should be “Threats to the Republic.” We are not a democracy, we have never been a democracy; we cannot be a democracy. No constituency larger than the ancient city of Athens can function as a democracy.
But, that being said…
What are the various threats to our republic that the respondent might consider when evaluating this question, on the phone with an impatient pollster who wants to move on to the next question?
For two years now, the Left has been spinning the narrative that Donald Trump and the Republicans constitute an existential threat… because we want a free country. The Left – that is, both the congressional majorities and their acolytes in the media – have used their power to build the narrative that the US Capitol’s decision to allow in a couple of hundred protesters, apparently whipped up by FBI plants on 1-6-21, was the worst thing to happen to America since that great big meteor struck the Yucatán peninsula 65 million years ago.
But that’s just what the Democrats think of as “threats to democracy.
Now, let’s look at it from a more rational perspective. What are the key threats that the United States of America faces today, that a sensible voter might consider when asked this poll question?
Massive taxation and over-regulation, which destroy the economy, most specifically, destroy our ability to either get jobs or advance in our careers and standards of living.
Massive overspending, government grants, guaranteed loans to connected businesses, refundable tax credits, new bureaucracies, and the overwhelming hiring of new bureaucrats… All of which serve only to increase inflation by diminishing or ultimately destroying our currency. All of this, by the way, hurts the lower rungs of the ladder, the poor, working poor, and lower to middle middle-class, hardest of all. (Government bureaucrats and the otherwise “connected” are in many ways immune to these blows.)
The abandonment of the rule of law, at the highest level: that is, the abandonment by government of the constitution itself… the refusal by our elected and unelected leaders to obey the terms of their employment. Every day, our government ranges further away from the bonds of the constitution, issuing illegal executive orders, passing unconstitutional laws, and issuing illegal regulations.
The abandonment of the rule of law at the most local level too: that is, the refusal of the federal government to enforce the border, enabling our nation to be transformed rapidly into a third world country, bankrupting American communities by allowing millions of illegal aliens to consume public services from schools to hospitals to police, not to mention disrupting the wage base… even refusing to honor the social contract of removing known criminals from society, by releasing criminals back into the community without bail, by refusing to jail offenders even after conviction.
And perhaps the most visceral of all these, at least to conservatives and others who are awake, is the growing trend to not only facilitate but legitimize vote fraud on a grand scale, because when elections are merely another tool to be wielded by a powerful establishment as a bludgeon against the public will, than any semblance of a “government by the people” has been thoroughly abandoned.
These are the threats to the American way of life, the real threats to the Republic, whether these corrupt pollsters realize it or not.
When a poll respondent is asked if he is concerned about “threats to democracy,” these are the things of which a real American is rightly afraid… not trumped-up charges against President Trump and a few demonstrators, and the filmed prime-time escapades of a kangaroo court…
The real threat to America is the growing mass of illegal, revolutionary assaults on the American system that are waged daily by the corrupt insurgency known as the Democratic Party.
