ROCKFORD – The public is invited to hear Republican Attorney General candidate Tom DeVore explain the controversial SAFE-T ACT at the Stockholm Inn in Rockford on Saturday October 22 at 5:00 pm. The event is the Winnebago County stop on DeVore’s “Safe-T Act Tour.”
DeVore is running for election as Attorney General against Democrat Kwame Raoul, who currently holds the office. In an October 10th debate, DeVore criticized AG Raoul for his failure to challenge the Safe-T Act in court.
“We now have over 50 state’s attorneys in the state of Illinois who are now doing, for all intents and purposes, the attorney general’s job in bringing causes of action on numerous counts that it’s unconstitutional,” DeVore said. “It is in fact unconstitutional.”
The Safe-T Act passed on a vote of 32-23-0 without a single Republican senator’s vote. The legislation will take effect January 1, 2023.
Will County States Attorney Jim Glasgow, a Democrat, is urging the repeal of the SAFE-T Act. “It will destroy the state of Illinois,” Glasgow said. “I have 640 people in the Will County jail. All their bonds will be extinguished on Jan. 1, and 60 are charged with murder.”
