Tragically, the new Illinois gun law just signed by Democrat Gov. JB Pritzker is a perfect example of the death of logic, common sense, and the endless attacks on our 2nd Amendment by Democrats for no rational reason.

The Democrat’s love to hysterically pitch how assault rifles are a horrific threat to all 330 million Americans.

Let’s check out the facts.

First, the FBI reported in their 2021 Homicide by Weapons Report that 447 Americans were killed by rifles of all kinds in 2021 which includes those killed by the dishonestly labeled “Assault Rifles”. True “Assault Rifles” are military rifles that can be put in automatic mode (machine gun) and they have been illegal for private citizens since the 1930s!

Based on this official data, the odds of any American getting killed by any rifle in a year is 0.0001% (447 rifle deaths divided by 330 million Americans). You are more likely to be hit by lightning! There are 400 million guns in America, and roughly 11,351 guns (rifles, pistols, and shotguns) are used to commit murder a year. That means that only 0.003% of guns are used to kill people. Should we take away the guns and 2nd Amendment rights of the 99.997% of legal gun owners that never kill someone with their guns?

Let’s put this in more perspective.

In 2021, nearly 108,000 Americans were killed by illegal opioids (70% of them fentanyl) made in China and illegally shipped across our borders by the same drug cartels that shipped 2.5 million illegal immigrants across our border last year. Those Chinese-made opioids kill more Americans aged 18-45 than anything else. 239 times more Americans are killed by those Chinese made opioids than by rifles of all kinds!

Now compare the news coverage of those opioids to the tiny percentage of Americans killed by rifles of all kinds. Add to that the fact that more Americans were killed in 2021 by fists and feet (461) then the 447 killed by rifles of all kinds.

Obviously we need to make fists and feet and knives illegal too!

Once the facts are known, any rational American should understand the lunacy of making “assault rifles” illegal because just 0.0001% of Americans are killed by them a year.

Our Founding Fathers gave us the 2nd Amendment to defend ourselves and our freedom. If Americans are willing to give up their 2nd Amendment rights because of a 0.0001% chance of being killed by a rifle, they don’t deserve freedom.

As Thomas Jefferson brilliantly said, “He who sacrifices freedom for security deserves neither. He who gives his freedom for safety gets none of them.”
