New York Times bestselling author Donald Trump Jr., son of the 45th President of the United States Donald J. Trump and the leading candidate in the Republican Primary for President visited Illinois on Friday where he spoke at the McHenry County GOPAC event in Addison to talk presidential politics and to promote Letters to Trump as part of a 4-stop, one-day book tour.
Donald Trump Jr. was visiting Illinois in his capacity as co-founder of Winning Team Publishing and as an invited special guest to promote Letters To Trump – a bestselling book and only the second official one since President Donald Trump left office. The book is a fascinating and rare collection of letters from some of the world’s most recognizable names including Oprah Winfrey, President Richard Nixon, President Bill Clinton, now-King Charles, Princess Diana, John F. Kennedy Jr., Sen. Ted Kennedy and North Korean President Kim Jong Un.
In Addison, the first event of the day where over 350 people packed into Venuti’s Banquet Hall to hear the former first son speak, Trump Jr. didn’t disappoint.
“I didn’t realize there were this many sane people in Illinois,” said Trump Jr. to a room full of laughter, before launching into his attacks against President Joe Biden; a struggling economy; a weaponized Department of Justice; a failed foreign policy strategy; and Hunter Biden’s addictions and corrupt business dealings.
Trump Jr. drew even more laughter when he said, “I understand that I’m the son of a billionaire from Manhattan. And if I’m at the grocery store with sticker shock – that’s a serious problem.”
During his 25-minute speech, Trump Jr. encouraged supporters of his father not to give up or give in to the pressure from the left.
“They want you to curl up in a ball and die, that is their win and they want you to think that it’s hopeless…They want you to think that there is nothing you can do.”
After the speech, Trump Jr. met with the media where he answered questions and addressed why he was visiting Illinois despite the Democrat’s control of the state.
“It’s not just trying to pick the states that you can win. It’s also picking the places where you can make a difference and perhaps move a needle in the congressional count and so all of that matters.”
Following his appearance in Addison, Trump Jr. – accompanied by Trump family friend and Chicago ward committeewoman Eloise Gerson and Sergio Gor, president and founder of Winning Team Publishing, attended two private events in the western suburbs before heading down to southern Illinois to headline an event hosted by Republican congressional candidate Darren Bailey.
The visit to Illinois was not affiliated with the Donald J. Trump for President campaign and Donald Trump Jr. did not make any endorsements during Friday’s visit.
