On Tuesday, a spokesperson for the Democratic National Convention took the time to slam the world renowned Trump International Hotel and Tower Chicago brand as they finalized lodging options for delegations from all 50 states and territories in preparation for the Chicago Democratic convention in August.
“We won’t be contracting with the Trump Hotel for any of our housing needs, not because of their non-union status, but because our party stands for unity, hope, and freedom — values that stand in fundamental opposition with everything the Trump name and brand represent,” said Emily Soong, a spokesperson for the Democratic National Convention, as reported in Tuesday morning’s Politico’s Illinois Playbook.
The DNC even went out of their way to ensure that visiting delegations did not get hotel rooms overlooking the iconic Trump International Hotel and Tower. And as Illinois Playbook reported, “The Illinois Democratic Party chose to take it on the chin by taking over most rooms of The Royal Sonesta Chicago hotel that looks at the Trump hotel from across the Chicago River.”
The Hyatt Regency Hotel will host the most delegations, and this comes as no surprise, as the hotel chain is owned by the Pritzker family and JB Pritzker serves as the current governor of Illinois and is a resident of Chicago.
Last March, Gov. Pritzker lobbied President Joe Biden hard to host the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago – even going so far as to say that the cost to host the convention would be covered without the DNC’s help – even if it meant paying for it out of his own pocket. Pritzker is the wealthiest politician in America with a networth of $3.5 billion. It’s estimated that the convention will cost nearly $90 million in total. During two election cycles, Pritzker financed his own campaigns, spending a staggering $323 million to be elected governor in 2018 and 2022.
But while the Democrats waste valuable time attacking the Trump Hotel brand, crime in Chicago – a sanctuary city, is skyrocketing. Since Biden was elected president, and his open borders policy went into effect, Chicago has seen an 11,000 percent increase in arrests of Venezuelan migrants. A string of burglaries are also popping up in the Chicagoland suburbs as migrants freely roam the streets.
Additionally, over 225,000 high priority 911 calls went unanswered in Chicago last year because of a smaller police force – leaving residents and visitors to the city in grave danger. To make matters worse, since 2019, the Chicago Police Department is hemorrhaging officers as burnt out cops quit, retire or relocate to other departments in the suburbs where political leadership are more supportive of the police.
According to the Chicago Department of Human Resources, over 3,300 police officers have left the department since 2019. During that same time frame, only 1,600 officers were hired – leaving the city with a massive police shortage.
In 2021, it was reported that over 400,000 “high priority” 9-1-1- calls went unanswered in the City of Chicago because no police were available to respond to the calls.
A “high priority” call includes,
“assault or battery in progress;”
“person with a gun;”
“person shot;”
“person stabbed;”
and “shots fired.”
If guests are worried about their safety while visiting Chicago for the Democratic National Convention – they should be – because if Gov. JB Pritzker and Illinois Democratic leaders show visitors the same amount of respect that they’ve shown residents and tourists the last couple of years – they should be very afraid.
After all, according to some Democratic leaders here in Illinois, rioting, looting and terrorizing residents and visitors is nothing more than a “mass protest.”
The DNC should spend less time targeting the respected Trump brand and more time protecting residents and visitors. Perhaps the city can learn a thing or two from the Trump brand on how to protect guests – because Trump International Hotel and Tower Chicago remains one of the safest buildings in the city.
