In post political punditry analysis immediately following Thursday night’s highly anticipated debate between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, the liberal mainstream media and Democratic political operates were in DEFCON1 after witnessing Biden’s disastrous performance where he appeared frail and confused – as calls grow from within his own party for the aging president to be replaced on the November ballot.
According to a flash CNN poll, 67 percent said Trump won the debate, while only 33 percent of those polled said Bide won. And political pundits and commentators on CNN and MSNBC couldn’t hide their shock as they admitted that their cell phones were blowing up from fellow Democrats around the country expressing their frustration with Biden’s poor performance.
On MSNBC, political commentator Chuck Tood said on air that he had received a message from a Democratic elected official who begged the question, “That’s his [Biden] performance after five days at Camp David? That’s after rest?” Last Thursday, Biden headed to Camp David – the presidential retreat to relax and prepare for the debate. The White House even cleared the president’s calendar for the week as the commander-in-chief remained hidden from the public atop a mountain in Maryland.
Loyal Biden supporter and CNN commentator Van Jones couldn’t hide his disappointment either – appearing almost in tears as he provided his analysis of the debate, saying, “There are going to be a lot of people who want him to consider taking a different course now…That was not what we needed from Joe Biden. It is personally painful for a lot of people.”
At a brief campaign stop at a Georgia Waffle House after the debate, Biden told reporters, “I think we did well” tonight. He also deflected questions about his debate performance saying “It’s hard to debate a liar.” But fact checkers flooded the airwaves following the debate pointing out the many lies of Biden – a point that the Biden campaign is choosing to ignore.
On Friday, during a campaign appearance, Biden attempted to slow down the talk of replacing him on the ballot – courting sympathy from voters and acknowledging his weaknesses saying, “I don’t walk as easy as I used to. I don’t speak as smoothly as I used to. I don’t debate as well as I used to.”
Replacing Biden this late in the campaign with the election just five months away would throw the Democratic Party into total chaos – turning the Democratic National Convention in Chicago this August into a circus in front of a live national television audience. In reality, the discussion should have taken place two years ago before Biden announced his intention to run for re-election. While many Democrats are hoping for California Gov. Gavin Newsome to be appointed to replace Biden – that thought is easier said than done, and would turn the Democratic Primary process into a “selection” instead of an “election.”
Late on Friday, both Trump and Biden appeared at campaign rallies, with Trump appearing in Virginia and Biden in North Carolina. The next presidential debate is scheduled for September 10th.
