Nearly 100 Democratic lawmakers boycotted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to a joint meeting of Congress on Wednesday, as one of America’s strongest allies defended the war in Gaza just blocks from Union Station in Washington where pro-Palestinian protesters burned the American flag, destroyed property and spray painted the words, “F**k America,” “Hamas is Coming” and “Kill them all” on monuments near the U.S. Capitol.
The scenes, which were going viral on social media, represent an elevation of anti-American and anti-Israel rhetoric less than a month before the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, where delegates are expected to anoint Vice President Kamala Harris – who skipped Wednesday’s speech, as their nominee for president after Joe Biden announced over the weekend that he would not seek re-election.
During the 2024 primaries, over 14 million Democratic voters voted for Biden as their nominee – but the last minute move to replace him with Harris has many feeling like their votes didn’t matter – and that this was the plan from the very beginning – turning an “election” into a “selection.” For years, the White House tried to conceal Biden’s rapid cognitive decline, but after June’s debate with former President Donald Trump – that was no longer possible. And since that debate, the Bidens and Harris have been accused of orchestrating the greatest health coverup in presidential history.
During Netanyahu’s speech, his first in the U.S. since the October 7th terrorist attack that killed more than 1,200 innocent civilians and where hundreds of hostages were taken, including U.S. citizens – Netanyahu defended the war with Hamas – “barbarians” who use women and children as human shields, and launch rockets and mortars from hospitals and schools.
The Israeli leader wove in the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 and the attacks on September 11, 2001, saying, “Like Dec. 7, 1941, and Sept. 11, 2001, Oct. 7 is a day that will forever live in infamy.”
Netanyahu even addressed the protesters, as thousands marched outside and around the U.S. Capitol complex.
“Incredibly, many anti-Israel protesters, many choose to stand with evil. They stand with Hamas. They stand with rapists and murderers.”
He then concluded with,
“You have officially become Iran’s useful idiots.”
During his speech, U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich) – who just endorsed Harris for president, held up signs that read, “War Criminal” and “Guilty of Genocide.”
Netanyahu will remain in DC for a few days and plans to meet with President Biden at the White House. On Friday, he’ll travel to Palm Beach, Florida and meet with former President Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate.
