Chicago Police Officer Enrique Martinez died in the line of duty on November 4, 2024. He was shot and killed during a traffic stop in the East Chatham neighborhood of Chicago.
Darian McMillian, a 23-year-old man, has been charged in the murder. He may had been on a pre trial release for another crime and it’s alleged he cut off his electronic monitoring device. This according to CWBChicago.com, “Nearly 20 percent of people arrested and charged with felonies in Chicago are already on pretrial release for another pending criminal case, a number that appears to be substantially higher than during a comparable period last summer, when Illinois still operated on a cash bail system.” This brings into question the new cashless bail system in Cook County.
A visitation for Enrique will be held Sunday, November 17, 2024 from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 West 103rd Street, Oak Lawn, IL 60453. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 18, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Rita of Cascia Shrine Chapel, 7740 S Western Ave, Chicago, IL 60620.
Enrique Martinez is the 602nd Chicago Police Officer to die in the line of duty since the department was started in 1835. For information on the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation go to this WEBSITE.
