On Thursday, the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights officially launched an investigation into the Illinois Department of Education, Chicago Public School District 299, and Deerfield Public Schools District 109, for Title IX violations after Deerfield school officials forced teenaged girls to change into their gym clothes in front of a trans-indentifying boy in the girls locker room.
“The architects of Title IX understood that males and females, especially minors, have a right to be free from compelled exposure of their bodies or from engaging in intimate activities – like changing their clothes in a locker room – in front of the opposite sex,” said Acting Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights Craig Trainor.
“This preserves the privacy and safety of all involved, especially young girls. The Department is deeply troubled by these allegations and will investigate this matter fully.”
Earlier on Thursday, Nicole Georgas, whose teenaged daughter was forced to change in the school locker room in front of a trans-identifying boy, received a personal call from U.S. Education Secretary Linda McMahon, who expressed her support and commitment to protecting young girls in school.
During a Deerfield school board meeting two weeks ago, Georgas spoke up in defense of her daughter and was openly mocked and harassed by transgender rights activists who were in attendance.
The mother argued during the meeting that school officials were in violation of President Donald Trump’s executive orders prohibiting boys from playing in girls sports and changing in the same changing rooms, and that it was the official policy of the United States that there are only two genders: male and female.
But school officials, under the supervision of legal counsel, said that students could use whatever bathroom or locker room that aligned with their “chosen” gender.
A few days later, school officials stood in the girls locker room to supervise as the girls were forced to change in front of a trans-intentifying boy. And while the district later issued a statement denying this ever happened, a secret audio recording from inside the locker room refutes their claim.
“It is shocking that school administrators would allegedly harass and bully a student for objecting to sharing intimate facilities with members of the opposite sex,” said Robert Eitel, President and Co-Founder of the Defense of Freedom Institute.
“We applaud the Department for launching an investigation and urge the agency to take action to terminate federal funding until the bad actors comply with Title IX.”
